Aquatic Center Injuries

Every year there are around 6,000 serious and fatal injuries that result from children playing in swimming pools in Houston, Texas. The sad reality is that many of these injuries and death could have been prevent if the staff or management of the aquatic center had simply taken further steps to ensure the safety of their younger guests. There are a few causes that are the most common when an aquatic center injury is reported.

Causes of an Aquatic Center Injury

  • Lack of Supervision – There are many instances where a minor mishap turns into a natatorium injury because of a lack of proper supervision in Houston, Texas. This can include not having lifeguards on duty or ensuring children under a certain age don’t access pools that are deep.
  • Inadequate Signage – Any business or organization that allows the public to use a swimming pool has an obligation to ensure guests are aware of all information about a certain pool or area. Injuries often occur because children are too young to instinctively know what actions are acceptable and which are not.
  • Maintenance Issues – Pools are just like any other piece of equipment in that they need to be maintained and serviced on a regular basis. If an injury occurs because a piece of this equipment is unsafe, this may mean the aquatic center is at fault.
  • Inadequate Covering – When pools are not being used there is an expectation that they will be covered so that guests know they aren’t open for use. If a child goes near one of these pools unsupervised, they can sustain a serious or fatal aquatic center injury.
